3/14/09 - Started the day at 5:30 am by heating the mash water while I ground the grains. Mashed for 60 mins at 155, then mashed out at 165-170. Had no problems lautering and by applying heat during wort collection the pot boiled within a few minutes of collecting the full 7 gallons. I added the 1 oz of Northern Brewer hops (pellets) directly to the kettle, and added 1 lb. of honey to the kettle 15 mins into the boil. I chilled with the counterflow device I made, again I was not able to pitch immediately but put the carboy in the fridge for an hour and it was at pitching temps. Pitched a 1 L starter directly (no decanting) that I made about 16 hours earlier and put it on a stir plate. |
